Carolyn “Nicki” Famiglietti

Carolyn FamigliettiCarolyn “Nicki” Famiglietti worked with the Massachusetts Department of Revenue from 1987 to 1993 and from 1998 to 2009. Nicki filled a variety of roles within the Child Support Enforcement Division, which was then a new state agency. Her primary responsibilities were drafting legislation, developing policy and procedures, implementing legal strategies and supervising litigation in paternity and child support cases. Nicki was appointed to the Massachusetts Child Support Commission by Governor Dukakis in 1985 and led the development and drafting of the Commission’s legislation recommendations. From 1993 to 1997, she was General Counsel to the Office for Children. Earlier in her career, Nicki was an attorney and a Managing Attorney with Greater Boston Legal Services for 13 years. Nicki developed a specialty in domestic relations law at GBLS. During her tenure supervising the innovative Family Law Unit, she represented clients in divorce, custody, foster care, and adoption matters.

Nicki received her J.D. from Boston University School of Law in 1973 and also holds a B.A. from Manhattanville College in Purchase, New York. Prior to attending law school, Nicki was involved in running a family business with her sister after the unexpected death of their father.

As an Access to Justice Fellow, Nicki will work with the Justice Bridge Legal Access Center at the University of Massachusetts School of Law. The program is designed to address both the legal system’s growing inability to serve consumers of modest means who cannot afford high hourly rates but do not qualify for pro bono legal assistance and the shrinking employment opportunities for recent law school graduates. Nicki will be providing assistance to attorneys who represent clients in domestic relations matters throughout Massachusetts.
