Choate Lawyers

The Lawyers Clearinghouse provides a unique opportunity for corporate, tax and real estate attorneys to apply their expertise on a pro bono basis.

While many pro bono projects target litigators to take on pro bono cases in the traditional poverty law areas, limited opportunities exist for non-litigators who want to provide pro bono legal assistance in their areas of expertise.

We rely on volunteer attorneys to provide needed pro bono legal services.

Serving the Needs of Nonprofits

If you are interested in doing pro bono work for nonprofit organizations through the Clearinghouse, please contact our Nonprofit Programs Manager, Shifrah Halevi, by email, or at 617.544.3434 ext. 108.

Our Legal Referral Program connects Massachusetts nonprofits with volunteer lawyers who can assist with a variety of legal matters. We also host a wide range of expert-led workshops for nonprofits and offer periodic pro bono legal consultations, which provide an opportunity to assist nonprofits one-on-one with discrete topics such as document review and governance and compliance assessments.

Helping People in Need

If you are interested in doing pro bono work through the Legal Clinic for the Homeless program or would like to join the Legal Clinic Panel, please contact Legal Clinic Manager, Sean Thekkeparayil, by email, or at 617.544.3434 ext. 110.

Our Legal Clinic for the Homeless program provides pro bono civil legal assistance to those who are homeless, at risk of homelessness, and/or very-low income, while our CORI Sealing & Expungement Clinic connects people with Massachusetts-based criminal records (CORI) with free assistance sealing or expunging their CORI.

Lawyers are also invited to join our Legal Clinic Panel, composed of volunteer attorneys that handle pro bono cases with the assistance of the Clearinghouse’s resources and mentoring capacity.

Engaging Senior Lawyers

If you are interested in doing pro bono work as an Access to Justice Fellow, please contact Executive Director Susan Gedrick by email, or at 617.544.3434 ext. 105.

The Access to Justice Fellows Program pairs lawyers who are retired or transitioning to retirement with non-profit and legal services organizations to provide critical assistance to underserved individuals and community and public interest groups.
