Michael Haroz

Michael HarozMichael Haroz currently serves as a Director in the law firm of Goulston & Storrs in Boston. For the ten years prior to joining Goulston in 1980, Mike served as a member and co-founder of a public interest law firm and later as an attorney at, and the Associate Director of, Greater Boston Legal Services. During this 10-year period, Mike handled and directed a variety of civil and criminal cases, including class actions and several jury trials, dealing with legal and human rights of low-income clients. Carrying his interest in public interest law with him to Goulston, Mike developed a practice that allowed him to develop skills and experience as a general business and commercial lawyer and found ways to utilize these skills in the context of transactional pro bono matters for the firm’s many pro bono clients. For example, Mike led the firm’s pro bono representation of a tenant organization in a joint venture development of a major affordable housing project and an immigrant community group in the development of a community center in a low-income neighborhood in Boston.

Mike served as a co-managing partner of Goulston from 1994-2000 and has participated in the firm’s efforts in business development, legal training, pro bono and strategic planning. Mike has also served or is currently serving as a board member with a variety of non-profit organizations in which he has helped develop and implement board development, fundraising and strategic planning processes. In recent years, Mike has devoted significant time to international volunteer legal work utilizing his broad experience in land use, law firm and legal services management, strategic planning, business development, fundraising, pro bono and public law litigation. This work has included on-site work through the International Senior Lawyers Project in Croatia, the Czech Republic, Kenya, South Africa and, most recently, Burma.

Mike is a graduate of Princeton University with a Certificate in National and International Affairs from the Woodrow Wilson School at Princeton (1967) and a graduate of Harvard University Law School (1970). Mike is an avid runner and has completed 20 full marathons, including Boston 2014.

For his fellowship project, Mike will work at Suffolk University Law School on the recently launched Accelerator-to-Practice Program. Collaborating with members of the faculty, Mike will help create this new model for law school education to help graduates develop sustainable law practices that address the needs of moderate-income clients who otherwise are foreclosed from access to justice by high legal costs.
