Stephanie Biggs

Stephanie Biggs earned her Bachelor of Liberal Arts in Extension School Studies, cum laude, from Harvard University in 1993. In 2002, she received a Juris Doctorate, evening division, from the New England School of Law. At graduation she was presented with the President Anna E. Hirsch Award for service to her fellow law students, law school and the legal profession. In 2013, she began volunteering at the guardianship clinics organized by Volunteer Lawyers Project (VLP) and Senior Partners for Justice, and felt she had finally found her true calling. She is a member of the Women’s Bar Association, the Massachusetts Association of Women Lawyers, and practices guardianship and conservatorship law in the Commonwealth.

For her project, Stephanie will work with Volunteer Lawyers Project to present overviews on the legal guardianship process to the caregivers of Boston Public School (BPS) special needs students, who will turn 18 and require a court appointed guardian. The overviews will direct caregivers through the medical documentation required by the Probate and Family Court before legal guardianship can be granted. Once the medical documentation has been completed, caregivers will be referred to the VLP’s guardianship Clinics, held in Suffolk, Norfolk and Middlesex Counties. Stephanie will work with the BPS Office of Special Education to identify appropriate schools for the project. They anticipate some nine schools will qualify for these overviews. The mission of VLP is to increase access to justice by delivering high quality pro bono civil legal services to eligible clients in the Greater Boston area.
